JCC Bridgewater Tide Success Continues in North Carolina

JCC Bridewater Tide Team at Sunkissed Invitational Junior/ Senior Championships of the USA

21 swimmers traveled to Charlotte, North Carolina April 4-7 to represent the JCC Bridgewater Tide at the prestigious Sunkissed Invitational Junior/ Senior Championships of the USA.  Coaches Mike Yearwood, Mike Pestorius, and Ward Weiland accompanied swimmers Ross Bernstein, Brendan Blood, Eileen Blood, Alexis Brewer, Ryan Bugianesi, Jennifer Doorly, Alan Du, Griffin Halpin, Leah Juechter, Hannah Lesser, Riley Pestorius, Josh Pica, Jacob Pica, Doug Quagliato, Kinsey Rushevics, Melody Visconti, Carter Weiland, Ethan Weiland, all of Bridgewater; Nick Berger of Warren, Rayna Klugherz of Basking Ridge, and Evan Kott of Piscataway to the 4-day meet attended by teams from all over the country.  Continuing the trend of the Tide’s growing success this season, the team made quite an impression with multiple swimmers having significant time drops and making the finals each night.  Alexis Brewer, Ryan Bugianesi, Riley Pestorius, Jacob Pica, Doug Quagliato, Melody Visconti, Carter Weiland and Evan Kott swam an impressive total of 21 individual event finals.   The Junior Boys relay of Carter Weiland, Jacob Pica, Riley Pestorius, and Ryan Bugianesi placed 3rd earning a bronze medal with spectacular swims by all four boys.

Junior Boys relay team of (L-R) Ryan Bugianesi, Riley Pestorius, Jacob Pica, Carter Weiland placed 3rd earning a bronze medal.

This meet was the culmination of an explosive 2012-2013 Short Course season for the Tide.  According to Coach Yearwood, “This was the greatest performance we have had in the history of our team, and to have such success at a meet of this caliber gave the Tide very positive national exposure.  There were so many highlights, it’s hard to pick just one, but having our boys relay get on the podium to receive their medals and roses was definitely a crowning moment for the team.  Watching Tide swimmers win heat after heat is something I will remember for a long time.”  With the incredible growth the Tide has been experiencing, the team hopes to double the number of swimmers that attend Sunkissed next year and continue to make an impression on the national swimming community.
